Great central place to base yourself as you explore all The Great Ocean Road and Otway Ranges have to offer. Situated midway between Apollo Bay and The Twelve Apostles (both 45 minute drive), on the main road to The Otway Fly Treetop Walk (15 minutes drive away).
Places to visit, things to do: Shipwreck Coast, Twelve Apostles, helicopter rides, Otway Fly Treetop Walk, Triplet, Beauchamp & Hopetoun waterfalls, Melba Gully glowworms, Cape Otway Light House, horse riding tours, platypus tours at Lake Elizabeth, visit Apollo Bay, Port Campbell, Warrnambool.
Staying at Fauna Australia, you have the added bonus of staying in our self-contained accommodation located within our private wildlife park grounds (not open to the general public). We are an attraction in our own right: no need for the kids to get bored in a motel. They can meander around and make some new friends.
Ideal for international visitors and families eager to meet Australian animal's: up-close and personal, without the crowds!
At night: Watch Fauna Australia come alive with Australia's nocturnal wildlife (don't worry they are all friendly and eager for some hand-feeding). You are able to view Aussie wildlife at their most active: night! We provide the torches.
Meet some often heard of, but rarely seen natives such as: tiger quolls, potoroos, bandicoots, bettongs, sugar and squirrel gliders & much more. We successfully breed some of Australia's rarest species in our all important endangered breeding programs.
We also have the much loved favourites in residence too: koalas, wombats, kangaroos and wallabies.
Your Hosts Kirsten, Dean, Jaryd, Sophie & Chloe call Fauna Australia Wildlife Retreat home. Kirsten has a degree in Eco-tourism and Dean is a qualified Zoologist.
Jaryd is only young but he was born on Steve Irwin's daughter Bindi Sue's 5th birthday. His favourite animal is the fluffy koalas. Jaryd loves showing guests his koalas.
Sophie was born on the 13th Sept 2005 and like her brother, she thinks everyone has koalas in their backyard.
Chloe was born on the 13th August 2007 and is way too young to realise how special her home is.
All linen provided, free animal feed supplied. Up-close koala meeting opportunity extended to all guests.

Dear Dean and Kirsten
We stayed at Fauna Australia on Saturday 22 September and really just wanted to write and thank you for a truly fantastic experience. Our children had an absolute ball seeing all the animals, hand feeding them, and 'spotlighting' them at night. The time Dean took to allow us to get up close and hand feed the koalas was just superb. The knowledge he gave us about the koalas was fascinating. This is an experience I have not yet had even having lived in Australia all my life!
My husband Kevin really enjoyed being able to cook the barbecue on Saturday night with the Sugar Gliders and Bandicoots right next to him foraging around. He said it was surreal.
The accommodation itself was perfect for our large family and had everything we could have needed. It was tidy, clean, warm and roomy.
Thank you for a fabulous weekend. It is a rare experience for us to be able to afford to get away for the weekend, but we certainly hope to return to your accommodation someday and will definitely recommend it to all our friends.
Kind regards
Kylie Johnson
Kirsten,
I just wanted to send you a quick e-mail on behalf of myself and the other girls, to thank you and Dean (and the kids) for a fantastic weekend away.
We enjoyed our time immensely, it was such a fun and different experience. It was nice to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and get 'back to nature', literally!
It is definitely an experience that I will remember, that I will encourage others to do and that I look forward to doing again.
Your hospitality was amazing, thank you for your friendliness, even when you had your hands so full with the kids.
Once again thank you so much!
Sincerely
Michelle Thomson (Rebecca McGrath and Amy Ortland)
