The Australian Landscape offers a wide range of experiences, only a few as unique or majestic as Queenslands Australian Tropical Rainforest region, which is a group of National Parks and primitive rainforest under Wet Tropics protection. Australia's tropical Rainforest region spans from the latitude of the Daintree River to the latitude of the mighty Annan River just south of Cooktown.

A magnificent collection of botanically diverse landscapes & ecosystems including tropical rainforest, animals, birds, and Mangroves, which possibly excels those anywhere else on the continent. This area is beloved by those who have a heart or eye for natural beauty. This rare mixture of ancient ecosystems from coast to high mountain ranges has remained intact for millions of years. A beauty and grandeur that touches the soul of all those that travel there.

Mungumby Lodge at Black Mountain, 35 kilometres (2o mins) south of Cooktown in the northern Queensland Tropical Rainforest which has attracted the attention of botanists and zoologists for many decades. In particular their attention is drawn to species of owls, the elusive Bennetts Tree Kangaroo, rare stream frogs, blossom bats, northern Quolls and an extensive range of regional and migrating birds. The preservation of the property’s natural landscapes and neighbouring Wet Tropics reserves provide an in depth opportunity to develop a greater understanding of this unique natural world. From its coastal boundary on the east to the exciting Black Mountain in the West, this northern region offers travellers a most memorable and rewarding experience.

Getting There!

Self-drive options from Cairns offers spectacular sights from the ground. Inland offers the true outback, unlike the rainforest clad coast road it is fully sealed all the way! The drive from Cooktown is only 35 minutes south and is sealed all the way to Black Mountain. Coming from Cairns, Helenvale turn off is located 2 kilometres north of the Little Annan River crossing on the inland Mulligan Highway, then is unsealed for 4 kms to Mungumby Rd. Travelling the coast road from Cairns, which is very scenic, the road is sealed till Cape Tribulation. From this point on, the Bloomfiled track is unsealed and very much 4x4 country. From Wujal Wujal it becomes the Bloomfiled development road and remains unsealed. This coast road from Cairns is often closed in the Wet season due to swollen river crossings and is often conjested with traffic especially at the Daintree River. However the inland road (CNS, Black Mountain) is open 12 months of the year and makes a great drive. We recomend drive inland north then coastal south.

Flight access to Cooktown (CTN)
Air safaris across the reef and rainforest are a spectacular way to visit! We are able to book charter flights and there are 4 scheduled services by Skytrans to and from Cooktown everyday. These can be booked directely with the lodge. Transfers are available from Cooktown for $35.00 pp to the Lodge. Charters can also be arranged with Mungumby Lodge for Skytrans where your clients specify the times.
