This beautiful rustic straw bale house has all the ingredients for a magical holiday. The house has a rambling quality, which makes it ideal whether you are a couple wanting a cosy hideaway, or a large group wanting a special retreat. Completely secluded amongst olive groves and bush, with glorious evening light on the magnificent karri trees, you can relax on the front veranda and listen to the sounds of nature, with kestrels, wagtails, blue wrens and frogs all around.

When the wind comes from the West, you can hear the crashing of the surf on Redgate Beach just over the ridge.
The house has the wonderful insulating qualities of straw - cool in the summer, warm in the winter. A wood heater with abundant firewood from our own plantation will ensure your warmth and cosiness whatever the weather!

Stroll around the farm, and you are likely to see kangaroos and emus. Go spotlighting at night in the natural bush behind the house, and you'll find possums, phascogales, bandicoots and maybe even a coupan!!! :)

The house itself is spacious, with several living areas, 2 TVs with free-to-air satellite reception, a fully equipped kitchen, with plentiful good quality pots, pans and appliances, an enormous dining table made from a marri tree cut from the farm, beautiful lead-light windows and comfortable beds. There's even a smaller second kitchen in case people want to cook separately.

There are 6 large bedrooms - 4 with queen beds, one with a double loft bed, and one with twin beds. The enormous upstairs lounge can be closed off for a 7th bedroom with a sofa bed.

There are 3 bathrooms with loos - 2 have showers and one has a bath/shower - so no need to queue!

There is a slate top pool table in the games room, as well as a table tennis table which can be wheeled out for a game on the back patio.

A short drive down Redgate Road takes you to the wonderful beaches of Redgate, or head to the bright lights of Margaret River only 10 minutes away. The prestigious wineries, Leeuwin Estate, Voyager Estate, Xanadu, Cape Mentelle and Redgate are 5 minutes away. The delightful boutique wineries of Witchcliffe Estate, Serventy and Devil's Lair are also a mere 5 minute drive.
Alternatively, just stay put, relax, and enjoy a bit of bucolic bliss!!!

Activities

There is horse riding in the vicinity, or bring your mountain bikes for a blast through the National Park trails. There is a local surf school, and plenty of wind-surfing or kite surfing for the intrepid. Fishing, whale-watching, caving - everything is here or within easy reach. Go rock-climbing or abseiling. Take a Bush Tucker Tour, or a Winery Tour, climb the Leeuwin Lighthouse - whether you want to fill your days with activity, or nothing at all - this is the place to do it!
If you are interested in any particular activites, ask us to provide info on local providers. We may be able to help!

Pets

We welcome well behaved dogs of all sizes.
Dogs deserve holidays too! And they do love it here - so much space to run and play.
Owners should be aware that there is no secure dog-fenced area, although the house is 400m from the road, so a safe distance from the sparse local traffic.
We ask owners to keep their dogs off the furniture and out of the bedrooms, and not to leave them unattended inside the house. They can be chained on the verandah, or inside the games room, or shut in the laundry room if necessary.
If they have coats that shed hair, owners should be prepared to clean up the hair for the benefit of future visitors. Owners are also asked to clean up their dogs' droppings from the garden area and around the outside of the house before they leave.

Extraordinary!! Perfect in every way. Had a group of 14 adults...14 very happy people. The house has everything you need. Well above the quality of many other houses in the region going for double the price!

Our only regret: we were there for only 3 nights! We'll all be back!

My wife and I stayed in The Straw House recently. Not only is the house a wonderful place to stay, with every facility, but it is located on a beautiful, private farm. You can spend many hours enjoying both the accommodation and the environment. John

Highly recommended. We had about a dozen family and friends at the Straw House for a week, while visiting Margaret River for our son's wedding. Such an interesting, spacious and well equiped place. Our friends from Toronto, Melbourne and Qld just loved the house and the surrounds. Things like the kangaroos hopping by as we had breakfast in the spacious dining room. Picking fresh salad veges from the garden is a nice touchs. Hosts Carolyn and Mark are friendly folk who are very responsive to the needs of their guests. Even a peacock to compete with for the veges, but if Carolyn has her way, its days are numbered.

I personally don't think i could recommend The Straw House enough! With so many rooms trailing off in all directions there is enough space for a small army.. A very well entertained army!
When we got there we where all so suprised at just how big the house was, the pictures just don't do it the justice it truly deserves.
The only drawback i can see in recommending The Straw House to anyone is it conflicting with our next visit!
Thankyou Carolyn and Mark for a wonderful stay.. i dare say you've thought of almost everything for a perfect holiday.

The Straw House is a comfortable relaxed place for a group of people. From the rustic feel, the spacious layout, the great kitchen and just it's location, the Straw House offers a great place to unwind with a group of friends.

Beautiful house and location - the house welcomes you as you walk through the door. Very friendly, helpful owners, justifiably proud of their achievement. Would definitely stay here again.

My friends are still talking about what a great New Years holiday we all had together - it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun if we'd stayed anywhere else. The house gave us space, privacy, social areas and a relaxed verandah - what else do you need? We'll be back!
