Visit here, its well worth the drive to the mighty famous SANDHILLS OF KURNELL SOLANDER MONUMENT is dedicated to the memory of Daniel Solander chief Naturalist for the Ship, BARK ENDEAVOUR. what's that I hear it's a bird, its a plane its, yes okay look up & spot the great big birds flying overhead, huge wings, no
feathers, over head winging their way to Mascot airport
(this is one of the mains flight paths) into across the blue waters of SYDNEYS BOTANY BAY maybe not flying in the same manner or at the low heights as our "SMITHY" SIR CHARLES KINGSFORD SMITH did when he flew his trusty little plane the (Southern Cross) across the Pacific Ocean to Australia, the very same place that our very own Lady of the Sky World Famous Aviatrix, NANCY BIRD WALTON, ( congratulations Nancy on your 90th Birthday in October 2005) who, as a young woman, also learnt to fly along with those early aviation heroes, landing usually safely on the somewhat swampy, bumpy grounds of that very small dusty dirt airfield, now known as SYDNEYS MAJOR AIRPORT " KINGSFORD SMITH" INTERNATIONAL & DOMESTIC AIRPORTS The same BOTANY BAY that brought CAPTAIN COOK to our shores, he who founded this mighty land, hundreds of years before, he who had sailed round our coastline only to land ashore here at KURNELL, again look up and then around you and try to imagine what this land would have been like then. Overhead, so low so slow, do they know of the Wealth of HISTORY that lies beneath in the waters below & buried in the sands of time down under the sea. Pilots, in great big metal birds waiting for that moment they touch down, on those markers, black piano keys, their wheels screaming, as they roll down along, the long the runways, whose landing fingers creep deeply out into Botany Bay. Flying birds (planes)
fom all over the world. Safely they land now after that last thrust forward over the Calm clear blue waters of BOTANY BAY, and as many others have gone before them... and as we say 'I STILL CALL AUSTRALIA HOME' Thank you PETER ALLEN (our dear and departed friend) who penned those magical words. Send a BOOMERANG around & watch it fly winging its way round & back again to you what did I just hear you say MY BOOMERANG WONT COME BACK or didn't come back, anyway we will just have to ask another ex-pat ROLF HARRIS about that one. Take it all in, as they say, Beauty Lies in the Eye of the Beholder. Food to Go, Chemist and LICENSED CLUB are just some of the shops in this hidden away place, a place in our modern day page of Australian History now what was it, that other little ditty you heard, AS I SAID ROLF HARRIS is at it again TIE ME KANGAOO DOWN SPORT TIE ME KANGAROO DOWN but you won't catch a glimpse of one of our big AUSTRALIAN BIG REDS in KURNELL and I don't
mean the meat pie & tomato sauce variety of a heinz big red, (sorry about that one) that other very special large brown animal.... our GREAT BIG RED KANGAROO, or the EASTERN GREY KANGAROO ....also the RED & FALLOW DEER, these can be seen and experienced along with other species of NATIVE EXOTIC & FARMYARD ANIMALS at the TARONGA PARK ZOO near CIRCULAR QUAY, or in our own SYMBIO WILDLIFE GARDENS FARM near HELENSBURGH just a little further south down the long and(magical) PRINCES HIGHWAY....... FORESTS who said we don't have FORESTS, maybe not as in Greenwood Forests, Robin Hood kind, or Rocky Mountains of USA , or in England Green, you just have to know which tree to look behind FORESTS a little further again, wee further south down along the magical PRINCES HIGHWAY. We have a local population of WILD DEER and KANGAROO roaming free, and if you are very lucky, very quiet, you may even catch a glimpse of one in some parts of THE ROYAL NATIONAL PARK, near the water in DEER PARK or in Bundeena, eating someone's flower garden but more on the later. HIGH TEA ANYONE, afternoon tea, not as in Tea House of the August Moon But our very own TEA HOUSE, open daily in the grounds of the E.G. WATERHOUSE CAMELLIA
GARDENS at Caringbah. On the 15th August 1959 this great plantsman MR. E.G Waterhouse [] and his wife planted the first camellias here in the garden, 1500 plants were eventually planted there. Later, the Ashes of both E.G. WATERHOUSE & his wife were scattered under certain named plants. The Garden was named in his honor and is probably the largest collection in the Southern Hemisphere. He is recognized as probably the worlds leading authority on Camellias and these gardens are firmly entrenched in History of the Sutherland Shire. Most days many couples use these gardens as a back drop for their Wedding Photography groups. Yowie Bay blue clear water skiing, boating,& fishing waters at one edge of the park like gardens, bounding the northern side is President Ave. The SUTHERLAND HOSPITAL, KAREENA HOSPITAL on Kareena Rd, some few meters up the road from the gardens, further along President Ave, is
PRESIDENT PRIVATE HOSPITAL Take a moment in time
to see & enjoy the varieties these beautiful grand old Camellias during the months March though to September when thousands of blooms of CAMELLIAS come into their own. These gardens are so named after this passionate man whose dedication to his abiding passion to the Camellia
have given the world this beautiful flower The gardens are wheel chair friendly and also have a wide selection of annuals, trees, conifers and much much more....ERYLDENE (on the northern side of Sydney) so named was the private residence of PROFFESSOR E. G. WATERHOUSE, designed in 1913 by William Hardy Wilson for the late Prof Waterhouse & his wife. Home & Garden are open to the public often during the year by arrangement with some Charities and also with the Australia's OPEN GARDEN SCHEME, to see this home and garden drive about 3/4 hr north on the Princes Highway

At the end of your ferry trip you reach the village of BUNDEENA, in of The Worlds Oldest Park, THE ROYAL NATIONAL PARK also the villages of BONNY VALE & MAIINBAR. There are other smaller places for swimming further down along the coastline through the Park. Driving through these areas is a relaxing experience, but some of the swim holes along the way are nearly impossible to reach and quite dangerous. As you pass through the virgin bushland some still scarred by recent bushfires, only now slowly establishing to former glory, spare a thought for the animals recovering as well. Great care must be taken to preserve our own Great Heritage and Parklands. Driving, Bird Watching or following one of the many tracks through out the Parks, this is the largest park in the southern hemisphere, all care must be observed, and be taken seriously as correct preparation needs to be addressed. If walking or Bird watching or just exploring the many cave and Aboriginal Carvings.
